Hawthorne for a healthy heart
In naturopathic and Chinese medicines, the botanical medicine most well associated with the heart is Hawthorne, whose Latin name is Cratageus pictured right. Hawthorne, a member of the rose family, is known to strengthen the heart muscle and protect the arteries and veins. It"s main use is to increase circulation to the coronary arteries, which are the arteries that feed the heart muscle itself. Studies of patients with heart failure have shown improvement using Hawthorne daily. ...more....

The Energetic Woman A Healthy Heart
One of the most common circumstances I see in my practice revolves around fatigue. Many women come to my office to tell me “I am so tired that I just do not feel like myself anymore.” If this is true for you, there is fortunately much hope!
Heart disease is the number two killer in our country. Main contributors to heart disease include lack of exercise, high saturated and trans fat intake, excess sugar intake, blood pressure and stress. Evidence from arteries of young soldiers who were killed in Korea taught us that vessel blockages start at a young age. New research has also shown us that inflammation from underlying infections, autoimmune processes, and digestive distress play a major role in advancing heart disease.

Spring Allergies
Spring time is a wonderful of year to get out and start the yard work, have picnics and exercise outdoors. Unfortunately, many people suffer greatly from allergies, hay fever and sinus problems when the pollen of Spring flowers start to permeate the warm air of the season. Natural medicine has an excellent array of treatment options to lessen the severity of seasonal allergies without resorting to drugs. Although pharmaceutical drugs often help alleviate symptoms, these are often steroidal in nature, and can have multiple side effects. Even the non-steroidal and over the counter drugs suppress immune function, thus leaving the body more susceptible to illness in the long run. Naturopathic medicine has a number of treatments to help reduce the cause of allergies.

Pesticides in Children / Financial Health
We have known for many years that the toxic compounds found in pesticides are harmful to human health. Chemicals like organophosphorus pesticides are used for food growing – and are documented as toxin that can cause disease in children. According the Environmental Protection Agency: “children"s internal organs are still developing and maturing and their enzymatic, metabolic, and immune systems may provide less natural protection than those of an adult.”
Although money does not necessarily directly create a healthier body, I have noticed a strong association between many of my patient’s financial health and each person’s realistic ability to take care of their physical health. It seems that most of us are now working more hours per week, as one American in three works more than fifty hours a week. And the more hours we spend working, the less time we have to take care our bodies and spend time with our loved ones.
